What do I mean by saying "Better investment than a veggie platter!"?
It is a look at the ratio of costs to desired outcome of your wedding reception. Several (non-alternative fact) polls suggest that the DJ, or band, are at the top of the list when it comes to making your reception an overall success!
What are your guests going to remember the most; The veggie platter or the entertainment?
Does a veggie platter share an equal importance to the success of your event as your wedding entertainment does?
Not so much.
Let’s say you have 125 guests and the veggie platter you're getting for the reception in the Portland area averages about $7 - $10 per person. That comes to $875 - $1250 for the vegetables with ranch during the cocktail "hour”. That is without adding the mandatory 18% gratuity, which then bumps the total up to $1032.50 - $1475.00.
I am not saying skip the vegetable crudites, I am suggesting that you might reconsider your budget to suit your priorities -uh-hem-
It takes a special set of skills to provide master of ceremonies service at a wedding, manage the timeline, direct the day’s activities, and organize a playlist for your event. Then throughout the evening, a DJ who knows what his audience likes, assess the energy and preferences of the crowd, and – most importantly – creates a great atmosphere for you and your guests.
A skilled professional holds the energy, and thus the success, of the party in his or her hands, in the all-so-important category of wedding entertainment. It takes time, experience, and training to be a great Disc Jockey.
Time equals piece of mind: A professional wedding entertainment company will normally invest 10 to 20 hours on your special event when it may appear that you are only paying for your "4 - 6 hours".
No veggie platter I know of will produce this kind of reaction.
When you are spending thousands of dollars on a once-in-a-lifetime event, doesn’t it make sense to budget a few more dollars and go that extra mile to hire a true professional wedding entertainer that will ensure a fun and memorable event your family and friends will remember for years to come? Like most things in life, you get what you pay for. Good entertainment is not cheap and cheap entertainment is rarely good!
Rates for the DJ industry vary greatly, ranging nationally from $350.00 to $3,500.00 with an average of $1,200.00 for a 4-5 hour reception.
In Portland, the DJ rates range from $300 - $2000 for a 4-5 hour wedding. Or per person at $2.40 - $16.00 for a guest count of 125.
The DJ, in many ways, is the leader of your wedding, so it’s best to invest as strongly as you can into this very present, energy-creating professional who can make your celebration unforgettable, and also provide the soundtrack for your day: your ceremony and on into your reception.
Your photographer captures your day, your DJ makes it your day.
