News from the field;
It all started when...
The crowd called out for something that they could dance to. The rabble of teenagers were getting unruly. The teenage boys that were DJ’ing the dance were losing the magical musical hold on the other kids attending the dance. Two of the three DJ’s bailed. As a junior, I volunteered to help with the setup of the dance. I was over to the side of the stage behind the curtain, reluctant to step into the line of fire. Everyone was yelling out what song to play next. I yelled over to Aaron AC/DC’s “You shook me all night long”! Aaron pulled out the Back In Black vinyl and put the song on. The guitar riff started and then there was a roar of approval from the crowd. I came over to Aaron and gave him a couple other suggestions to follow this one; Quiet Riot’s “Cum On Feel The Noise”, The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” followed by “Stairway To Heaven”.
I would not call a few song suggestions being a DJ, but a year or so later, I began hosting my own weekly radio show on the public station in my hometown.
